We have also partnered with House Head Productions to bring you the Offical After Party for Battle @ Buffalo. Happening from 11pm – 2am at Second Cup, 36 Broadway Ave. This is a great event that also showcases local talent in terms of house music and dancing. Its a great place to join in on the freedom of expression that only dancing can provid. Two great events, one night. See you there.

Respect

So last month at the jam I made a short speech about respect,if you were not there here is what I said-

Tonight I want to talk about Respect. A lot of people talk about respect in the b-boy community, they want to earn respect, they get mad cause somebody didn’t show respect. As I have watched the scene change over the past decade I think a lot of dancers don’t respect the scene or community itself so I wanted to share what respect means to me.

Respect starts with taking the time to learn the history behind the culture including the music and art that has influenced the dance. Understanding the events and times that propelled the dance to evolve and understanding that it is a culture and a dance not just a bunch of moves. Respect means appreciating the b-boys that started the scene, enough to learn the names of the moves you mimic and how they were developed. If you use other people’s moves and don’ t know where they came from or who created them it isn’t respectful to the time and work that person put into their dance.

Respect means having compassion for the people in the scene and understanding that your actions as a person effect everyone in that community. Respecting the culture means being unified as a community that appreciates each others differences and works together to educate the current and future generations.

Respect means looking at your motives. Are you here to look cool, get attention or money? Are you here only to take what you can from the scene or are you here to give back and make sure the scene moves forward and is preserved for the future?

Respect means paying attention to others and appreciating the sacrifices they have made to the community, understanding that if you only take what they have to offer and never give back then eventually there will be nothing left to take and nothing left to pass on………….After I said all of that, I went on to talk about the first time I met J-Rebel in a club in Toronto. Long story short,I didn’t sweat him to be in his crew. He didn’t try and battle me. We actually met and sat down and talked about the culture and the history of B-boying for at least two hours straight….mind you this is in 2000 in a club with great music, allot of good looking woman and lots of fun to be had. But we felt a need to talk about history and culture of breaking. I’m thankful for moments like this cause I learn allot in these exchanges. So I guess what I’m saying with all this is respect each other, learn the history of the dance and respect yourself and the culture.Educate yourself so you can educate the next generation.

So that was it,just wanted to share with you. I am very passionate about Hip Hop and B-Boying so I will be posting more of my thoughts on a regular basis. I have many other topics to cover and allot to say about B-Boying in general….stay tuned. Peace,Shane Depree

Battle @ Buffalo and updates.

Hello all,so I’ve been slacking on updating this page and for that I’m sorry. I will be on here everyday doing either an update about the studio or just bringing you something new that I thought was worth while. With that being said here is the info for the Battle @ Buffalo this month-

For December we are going back to a 1v1 for B-Boying as well as All Styles. The bracket will be 16 individuals for Breaking and 8 for All Styles. We are having the battle on the 17th of this month. Because of the holiday’s this is the only day possible to have the event. I know that P.A is doing their event on the same day and all I can say is that it sucks. I have mad respect for everybody out of P.A and am really happy to see their scene growing in a positive way. I wish there were a way to avoid this but that day is really the only day that makes sense to do a jam.

I just want everybody to know that I’m not trying to make people choose one or the other or be in competition with B-Boy Tactics. I have nothing but love for you guys, ans appreciate all your support and hope that your jam is a success!

As usual,we have gift cards for your song request. Post up to three songs on this page and if we play your song at the jam you will receive a New Era gift card. On the decks this month we have DJ Cutler back to bless us with some funk on wax aswell as Dj Sike holding it down for the All Styles battle! Make sure you bring your dance shoes or either a fold up chair so you can enjoy a night of dancing and fun!

The official after party for Battle @ Buffalo will be held at the event- House Heads Productions! We are going to try and line up these two events every month from now on. House Heads Productions is not only the after party for our battle, but first and for most it is the scene for House dancers all over this area. The people behind this event are responsible for a dance scene in Buffalo and have been building it for many years now… period. So respect is due. The vibe at this event is one of freedom and fun, come and expierence it for yourself..I guarantee you will have a good time. Peace,Shane
