Top Health Benefits from Dancing- at any Age!
Dance classes are not just for kids. Dance classes are not just for fun. Although that is a good reason to take them. Here are four, very adult, very practical reasons for you to join our next session of adult classes.
4 BIG REASONS to dance as an adult:
Flexibility is an important part of being healthy. Most of us lose flexibility as we grow older because we are as active or active in the same ways that we were when we had time to run around playfully all day. Dance requires a great amount of flexibility. All of our dance classes begin with a warm-up that includes stretching exercises. These exercises can easily be repeated at home during the beginning and end of you day. Even a few minutes spent each day completing these stretches will help you make strides in your overall health and the way you feel. Dancers must strive to achieve full range of motion for all the major muscle groups. The greater the range of motion, the more muscles can flex and extend. Experiencing an increased range of motion will likely encourage you to try more physical activities that perhaps you didn’t think were possible for you.
Dancing builds strength by forcing the muscles to resist against a dancer’s own body weight. This enables you to build strength progressively and naturally, using your own body. Our hip hop and B-boy/girl classes include a variety of dynamic moves that allow you to build strength while requiring your body to increase in flexibility, creating a balance in your fitness accomplishments. You will target every major muscle group as well as find muscles that you may not recall using before. The foundation freezes of B-boying teach your body how to hold itself in positions focused around the development of core strength and balance. A strong core allows you to fully utilize your body and helps to prevent injuries.
Dance is physical exercise that involves continuous movement. Exercise increases endurance. Endurance is the ability of muscles to work hard for increasingly longer periods of time without fatigue. The longer your endurance the more your body’s natural energy is able to carry out tasks, enabling you to be more productive throughout the day. Elevating the heart rate can increase stamina and provide much needed cardio vascular health.
4. Sense of Well-Being
Dancing is a social activity that enables individuals to express themselves through movement to music. Studies have long linked this social expression to self-esteem and a positive outlook. Our studio not only provides classes but regular monthly events that provide many opportunities to meet other people. To share what you are learning and to learn from others, increasing your social awareness and sense of community contributes to your sense of contribution as an individual.
So, why wait? Dancing is fun, it’s healthy and supports the development of community. What to see what our studio is all about before committing to classes? You can join us for our monthly event Battle @ Buffalo, this coming Saturday, February 22nd from 7-11pm. $5 for general admission.
