Battle @ Buffalo – Under the Lights! A Hip Hop Festival

On Saturday August 27th, local, regional and international b-boys and b-girls, also known as break dancers will join local artists, photographers and musicians in a family friendly hip hop festival, celebrating Battle @ Buffalo’s coming 5 year anniversary.

The event takes place in the parking lot of the New Era Buffalo Flagship store at 160 Delaware Ave Buffalo, N.Y. 14202 from 2 to 10pm and will show case local hip hop musicians and DJ’s while the artwork of local urban artists and photographers is on display. An interactive art tent will allow everyone access to art supplies so they can create original pieces should they feel inspired while watching live graffiti artists.

A 16 person All Styles Battle will kick off the dance segment of the day while a 32 crew B-boy Battle boasts its place as the main event. The B-boy Battle is a 2 on 2 competition with the winners of both battles taking home cash, prizes and bragging rights.

This all ages event is being hosted by, Shane Depree Fry, founder of Battle @ Buffalo, a monthly all styles and b-boy competition held at Verve Dance Studio on the last Saturday of every month. Fry started the school with his partner, Heather Russell in 2005 with the goal of providing a “space” to nurture young dancers. The studio which Fry and Russell labeled as being dedicated to “the art of b-boying and hip hop culture” has provided much more to the local community. A regular at Battle @ Buffalo over the past three years, Jordan King refers to Verve as “my second home” and “my start to confidence and finding myself.”

Fry’s goal in partnering with New Era is to break the 250 attendance that Verve has every month at Battle @ Buffalo and bring the positive, family atmosphere of the school to the streets of Buffalo, creating an annual event with a message that promotes unity and respect across diverse demographics.

Battle @ Buffalo- Under the Lights will be a positive and warmly welcomed addition to Buffalo’s line up of summer festivals.
